About This Spot

Stepping into Almaz Cafe feels like uncovering a quietly cherished corner of Onehunga, where the pace slows just enough to savor simple, heartfelt moments. Natural light streams in through large windows that open onto the bustling street, bringing a gentle connection between the cozy interior and the neighborhood outside. It’s the kind of place where both longtime locals and new visitors settle comfortably, drawn by the warm closeness of its atmosphere and the familiar rhythm of shared tables and gentle conversation.

The space invites an unhurried lunch or a relaxed evening meal, with a mood that balances welcoming simplicity and subtle vibrancy. Service is the kind that feels genuinely friendly without overshadowing the experience—there’s a soft attentiveness that complements the steady flow of meals arriving at tables, each plate offering a piece of the café’s rich culinary story.

Almaz Cafe’s food quietly celebrates rich, regional flavors woven through its offerings, from tender cuts of meat resting on fragrant rice, to fresh, vibrant vegetarian platters that invite leisurely enjoyment. The aromas of well-seasoned kebabs mingle with the warm earthiness of Turkish coffee, adding a layer of comfort that matches the café’s easygoing tone. Occasional touches of sweetness, like flaky baklava, round out the experience with just the right hint of indulgence.

What makes Almaz Café truly special is the feeling that this is a spot built around connection—whether it’s a family returning week after week or a stranger discovering a slice of something genuine. The open window that frames the street outside seems to invite the neighborhood inside, blending local life with the warmth found in every carefully prepared meal.

Always like the food at Almaz Cafe. The kebabs are okay but the persian menu specials are quite good. Tried the lamb pasendeh which was amazing.

Highly recommend, staff are so lovely and food is delicious and comes out very quickly. It’s nice to sit in and eat in the summer with the large windows out front. My family has been ordering from here for the past 20 odd years, quality has always been great and is our favorite go to on a Sunday night.
